Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture
Category:NewsUnder the guidance of the Sub-Committee on Aquaculture of the FAO Committee on Fisheries, the Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture (GSA) were created at the request of Members. The goal of the GSA is to support Members and other stakeholders in the implementation of the 1995 Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries by providing a comprehensive framework for the management and development of sustainable aquaculture.
The Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture contain the following 3 sections:
- vision, objectives, scope and guiding principles;
- guidelines for promoting sustainable aquaculture;
- implementation and monitoring.
They GSA are designed to adapt to various contexts and to facilitate the development of sustainable aquaculture techniques tailored to local conditions. They are meant to be periodically updated in order to reflect new advancements and emerging issues in the aquaculture sector.
