Guidelines in Support of Social Scceptability for Sustainable Aquaculture Development

The General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) published a document presenting the guidelines in support of social acceptability for sustainable aquaculture development. 

The publication aims to provide Mediterranean and Black Sea countries with recommendations for improving the social acceptability and sustainable development of the aquaculture sector, identifying the governance, environmental, economic, social and ethical aspects that could influence the social acceptability of aquaculture in the region.

Good Practice: Molin di Bucchio, Italy

An abandoned 18th century aquaculture farm in Tuscany, Italy, was restored with the help of EU funding.

The farm is producing both local and threatened species for ecosystem restoration, such as the Apenine trout (Salmo trutta fario), as well as the production of Rainbow trout for transformation and development of short chain food circuits.

AAC Recommendation on the Circularity of Fish Feed

6th International Carp Conference

Fish Farming and Aquaculture Study Programme – Romania

The Faculty of Food Science and Engineering within the University „Dunarea de Jos Galati” has started the registrations for the Fish Farming and Aquaculture study programme.

The Fish Farming and Aquaculture specialization’s main mission is training specialists to solve complex biotechnical problems regarding the design, exploitation and sustainable capitalization of aquatic bioresources from national and international waters.

The admission process is based on application file. Applications can be submitted during 6-22 July 2022, online and during 10-22 July at Domnească Street no. 111, body C.

The final average for admission is calculated from:

• 50% – average score from the baccalaureate exam;

• 50% – multiannual average score in one of the disciplines of Algebra/Chemistry/Biology, at the candidate’s choice.
